Creative Counseling for Elders and Families, Inc. is pleased to announce the addition of Kira Reginato, Therapeutic Care Manager, to their staff as of June 3, 2013.  Kira has been serving clients at her firm, Living Ideas For Elders, for over five years and is ready for a new position. “The decision to join Creative Counseling stemmed from the desire to work in a team environment, to enjoy work/life balance, and to help develop care management curriculum with owner, Drew Ross,” said Ms. Reginato. What I See, What I Think, What I know…

What I See: The senior population is growing exponentially each day. Baby boomers, their parents, their children, and grandchildren are screaming out for a model of treatment that addresses the needs of the whole family. A band aide can no longer heal the problems that this population is facing.   What I Think: More and more the needs of seniors and their families will continue to change from the cookie cutter, medical model approach of one size fits all to a more broad based, all encompassing model of care and support. One that not only addresses the most pressing and urgent issue but looks toward the future and creates a system that supports and cares for not only the identified patient but his or her entire family as well.   What I Know: One size fits all does not work. The band aide effect is not successful. Each situation is different and requires specific and focused goals and plans of care. The entire family is affected by the decline of a loved one and therefore the entire family needs a system of care and support to help them navigate through whatever may come. We must work therapeutically, collaboratively, and from a whole family/whole systems based approach in order to truly meet the needs of our seniors and their families. The band aide must come off!

What I see: Seniors and their families are overwhelmed and confused by trying to navigate through working with doctors and the medical profession at large. What I think: No one in the world knows how you are feeling and what is and what is not working for you better then you. What I know: Senior and their families must speak up and advocate for themselves around medications and medical treatment. Your doctor and other providers only know as much as you tell them and if you aren’t vocal you could be lead down a road that not only doesn’t help, but actually makes things worse. Advocate for yourself or get an advocate. It is that important!
